GT4 Italy starts in 2023!

One of the most successful international categories arrives in Italy with a calendar divided into five events: the start in Monza on the first weekend of April

Italian motorsport is enriched by a prestigious new addition thanks to the agreement between Formula X Racing Weekend and SRO Motorsports Group. Italy will in fact be the fourth nation to host an official GT4 series with a dedicated grid. The category, which is enjoying incredible success in Germany, France and European Series, makes its debut in the young and innovative reality of the Formula X Racing Weekend, with the ambition of quickly becoming a point of reference for GT competitions. Numerous teams and drivers are already joining the new project.

The technical and sporting aspect will be of the highest profile, with constant support guaranteed by the SRO Motorsports Group: in fact, a specific Balance Of Performance will be developed for each of the scheduled stages, in order to guarantee a balanced and exciting competition; moreover, there will be the presence on board of the cars of the official data logger system of the series, as well as an exclusive electronic marshaling solution for this category in Italy.

The new GT4 Italy will represent the spearhead of the 2023 Formula X season characterized by the presence of various competitions reserved for single-seaters, Touring cars and GT/Sports. The show will not only be guaranteed on track but also outside, with a Paddock designed for the fans, various initiatives that will see the drivers at the center of the show, VIP Hospitality areas and exclusive events to make the GT4 Italy appointments unforgettable. The communication will be strongly focused on the Drivers and Teams, to let the fans enjoy the great Italian motorsport at 360°.

The GT4 Italy calendar will take place over five rounds, scheduled on circuits of great charm and prestige: the start of the new season will take place on the first weekend of April on the Autodromo Nazionale Monza, which will be followed by the rounds scheduled at the Red Bull Ring, Mugello, Vallelunga (as part of the ACI Racing Weekend) and Misano, where the season will end on November 10-12th*. The weekend format includes a double free practice session of 30′ each, then two 15′ qualifying sessions which will establish the starting grid for the two race heats, both lasting 30 minutes. For each car at the start there will be the possibility of using a single driver or even a crew made up of two drivers, who will be divided into the Pro, Pro/Am and Am classifications. The starting grid will be made up exclusively of GT4 cars (including previous generation ones), which will be able to count on the supply of Pirelli tyres.

Luca Panizzi (Formula X Racing Weekend organizer): “We are really proud to announce this important agreement with SRO Motorsports Group, thanks to which we will have the opportunity to launch the new GT4 Italy series. This is a fundamental step in our growth path, as already evidenced by the great results recorded last year in events full of fans and competitors at the start. GT4 Italy will be the main event in our racing weekends and numerous teams of many prestigious brands have already expressed their interest in this project. In addition to having five of the most spectacular tracks at European level, the calendar is structured to be the perfect program for teams wishing to combine a national program with the European one, as there are three appointments on the same circuits: in particular, Monza will be scheduled two weeks before the debut of the European Series on the same track. The goal will be to quickly reach the numbers recorded by this category in France and Germany, where the average number of cars at the start exceeds forty units. I would like to thank Stéphane Ratel and SRO Motorsports Group for believing in our work, as well as ACI Sport and all our partners for their precious support. For Formula X Racing Weekend, 2023 promises to be an unforgettable year and we are looking forward to the official start of the season in Monza!”

Stéphane Ratel (CEO and Founder SRO Motorsports Group): “”We are very pleased to announce this new licence agreement with the Formula X racing weekends to help further develop the ultra-successful GT4 category in Italy. GT4 deserved its own standalone series in one of Europe’s most important motorsport market and the young and dedicated team of the Formula X weekends is the right partner to achieve the success we are looking for. We are sure that it will be a very rewarding cooperation and we can’t wait for this new adventure to begin!”
